ABSTRACT |
Appendiceal diverticulitis is an uncommon cause of right lower quadrant abdominal pain. Mostly, it is considered as acute appendicitis because clinical presentation of the appendiceal diverticulitis is similar to acute appendicitis, therefore it is diagnosed by appendectomy and pathologic specimen. The patients with appendiceal diverticulitis have higher rate of perforation. Also, they need longer operation time and longer postoperative hospital stay. They are relatively old age and have longer duration of symptoms. Preoperative diagnosis of appendiceal diverticulitis is not impossible by high resolution ultrasound equipment. Although there is a limit to diagnose appendiceal diverticulitis by ultrasound, we must give particular attention to clinical setting which is possibility to appendiceal diverticulitis. |
