ABSTRACT
Fatty pancreas is commonly addressed in abdominal ultrasonography. However, there is a lack of knowledge regarding the clinical significance and the definition of the severity of fatty pancreas. This review article summarized the previous studies describing the criteria for severity grading and diagnosis, the importance of ultrasonography as a diagnostic tool, and the clinical significance of the development of inflammation and cancer. Furthermore, the manuscript attempted to demonstrate the clinical, molecular, and cellular associations of fatty pancreas with metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome.
